The Gaeltacht island of Donegal offer a kind of holiday that ignites the senses - one of peace and tranquility, soul-nourishing freah air, a range of activities and an insight into Ireland's heritage and culture.
Whether you are interested in walking, hiking, diving, birdwatching, rock climbing, angling, cycling or just listening to a good story-teller or old-time singer, there's something for you on a Donegal Gaeltacht island.
And when the island sun sets, there are pubs with Irish music and craic or a quiet drink.
Large and small, each of the six islands featured in this sitehad its own unique character and story. The prehistoric monuments, abandoned dwellings and ancients field patterns offered those with an interest in history an insight into our heritage.
Four of the islands are accessed by ferry boat, one (Inis Fraoigh) by charter boat only, one (Oileán Ruaidh) by car across a tidal causeway at low tide.
There is a range of hotel, guest-house , bed & breakfast and self-catering accommodation available.
Some of the islands do not have ragular accommodation of catering facilities and you are advised to bring food with you to those islands.
Remember, Irish weather is changeable, so always dress accordingly. Please respect ancient sites and monuments, dwellings, old stone walls and wildlife habitats.

An Ghaeltacht
The Gaeltacht is the term used to refer to those areas of Irelandwhere the Irish language (Gaeilge) is spoken as a community lanuage, and its cultures and traditions are alive and thriving.
The Irish-speakin communities are situated mainly along the western seaboard, and the Gaeltacht covers extensiveareas of counties Donegal, Mayo, Galway and Kerry.
